Jaeger-LeCoultre is a luxury watch manufacturer that was started by Antoine LeCoultre in 1833. Antoine set up shop in the small town of Le Sentier, Switzerland. Antoine was not just interested in making watches though, he was interested in precision timepieces. So interested in fact, that he was the first person to measure the micron and from this measurement he created a device that could measure to the thousandth of a millimeter. Later, he created a system that made the need to rewind and reset watch keys obsolete. Though Antoine was the inventor, his son Elie turned the small shop into a booming business. Today, the manufacturer still produces watches in the same building, watches which are of the highest quality and precision.
As a highly-esteemed company, Jaeger-LeCoultre has made watches and watch pieces for Cartier and Philippe Patek, as well as measuring instruments for French automakers Citron and Renault. The company has many achievements under its belt, including the creation of the thinnest pocket watch in 1903, the creation of the first automatic alarm wristwatch in 1956, and the creation of the world's first dive watch with alarm movement in 1961.
