Most people mistakenly think that engagement ring designs should only be the solitaire set on a single band. This article explores other designs.

A lot of people have no idea that there are, in fact, a lot of engagement ring designs other than the simple solitaire. Let us try to discover some of the designs that have captured the eyes of a lot of men who tried to choose the best for their ladies.

Single Engagement Ring Settings

There are two very common settings of engagement ring designs. These are the prong and flat top settings. Two other settings have started to gain popularity these past years: the flush and illusion settings. You might be surprised that the tension setting has been popular for more than 40 years already. The following are the engagement ring designs according to setting:

Traditional setting: In this design, metal prongs hold the diamond/stone in place. Because the aim of this setting is to allow as much light as possible to pass through the stone, the metal is usually made of platinum, which can be shaped as thinly as possible without sacrificing the durability of the ring. There is no question that this simple but elegant setting is the most popular of all settings.

Flat top setting: This setting makes use of a metal band that tapers at the bottom. The stone is set on the thicker top side, which is sometimes set with metal chips that surround the stone. Although not as elegant as the previous setting, this design is still popular because of its simplicity.

Gypsy setting: This setting is good for tiny diamonds, which are imbedded into to ring and therefore look simple but secured. Not a lot of people prefer this as the stone does not shine because of light restrictions.

Illusion setting: This setting is popular because this makes the diamond appear larger than it actually is. This was achieved by nesting the stone around mirrored metal plates.

Tension setting: This is actually a popular setting composed of metals that hold the stone on a setting that is uniquely angled.

Accented Diamond Ring Settings

Accented engagement ring designs are beautiful because the largest stone is supported by small diamonds or other stones.

Pave setting: This is composed of one diamond that is at the center, along with a lot of small diamonds that are embedded on the metal band. The little diamonds appear to make up the whole band.

Side stone setting: This setting has a large diamond on top, together with smaller ones evenly placed on both sides. The side stone setting is also a popular design.

Gemstone setting: To add more expression to the ring, gemstones such as rubies and sapphires are added to the ring.

Stone sets setting: There are also men who would choose the style where, usually three similarly sized diamonds are placed alongside one another.

No matter what design you would choose for your wife-to-be, it is still good to remember that it is not the price that makes the ring beautiful but how well it matches her, how sturdy the design is, and how much love you had inputted in choosing the design.
